Blogging on Squarespace: Create a Blog in 5 Minutes

Blogging on Squarespace

Looking for an easy way to grow your website and encourage more people to visit?

Creating a blog is a simple way to enhance your site and with Squarespace, it's really easy to get started.

If you've ever thought about creating a Squarespace blog but are unsure where to start, I've put together this guide to help you on your way.

The benefits of blogging on Squarespace

If you're already using Squarespace, you can effortlessly create a blog for your site, and I'll show you how to do this later in the article.

Squarespace has lots of useful in-site features that mean you can manage your blog easily, helping you save time. For example, you can track analytics so you can see which blog articles are performing best.

It's also easy to optimize your blog posts for search engines, meaning they're more likely to stand out when people search for keywords using Google and Bing.

You can also schedule posts to go live on a particular date. Establishing a regular blog cadence is really important – HubSpot recommends that companies blog between once and four times a week to boost brand awareness.

With Squarespace, you can line your blog posts up and set them to go live at a specific time. No more having to log on at evenings and weekends to post your content!

Top 5 Squarespace blog examples

One of the best ways to get motivated when it comes to blogging on Squarespace is to look at examples of blogs that other people and companies have created.

This can help you understand what to blog about as well as see what blog designs are available.

Of course, while I definitely wouldn't recommend copying someone else's blog outright, it's okay to take inspiration from what people are putting out there!

Here are five Squarespace blog examples I really like.

1. Unwrp: how-to guides

The great thing about creating a blog is that you can use it to talk about whatever you like, from company news through to quirky stories that enrapture your audience.

Unwrp specializes in selling wrapping paper and gift cards, and uses its blog to demonstrate some fun how-tos.

Each blog contains an easy-to-understand video which is embedded at the top of the page. Videos can be a fantastic way to boost engagement on your site and encourage customers to stay on your blog a little longer.

2. Yarza Twins: news and collaborations

When you're a design agency, you need to use your website to showcase your business and talk about the work you do. Yarza Twins does this through its interesting blog.

As well as talking about the latest news and the clients the company has worked with, it also provides compelling branding stories and articles about the history of design. Is it the prettiest blog in the world? Not necessarily, but it takes you on a story.

Each blog article contains a lot of photos and imagery, and the great thing about blogging with Squarespace is that it's easy to drag and drop your images into the place you'd like them to go.

3. Supernatural: recipes

Supernatural specializes in selling yummy sprinkles to stores and uses its blog to promote some really delicious and easy-to-follow recipes.

I really like the design of the blog articles here, which show the recipes and the final result in all their sweet and tasty glory.

While the blog template is pretty minimalist, it's great as it lets the bright and vivid photos shine through.

4. Ash Owens: blogging and influencing

All the blogs we've looked at so far have been subsections of a regular site. However, did you know you can also use Squarespace to create a website that is wholly dedicated to blogging?

This is what Ash Owens, a travel and lifestyle blogger, has done. She has several different blogging subsections on her site, which contain lots of insightful content as well as exciting imagery.

5. Spark Plugin: cool news about Squarespace!

5 best blog templates on Squarespace

One of the brilliant things about Squarespace is that there are over 100 free templates that you can use to style your website and make it yours.

The best thing is they all come free with your Squarespace subscription.

There are also several templates that are optimized for blogging, or include a dedicated blogging template.

If you want blogging to be the primary focus of your website, these templates are a fantastic starting point.

Here are some of the best blog templates on Squarespace 7.1 that will help make your brand new blog grab people's attention.

Note: If you're using Squarespace 7.0, the templates are slightly different. However, if you know what you want from your blog template, you'll easily be able to find one that best suits your needs.)

1. Brower

Brower Squarespace blog template

As Brower showcases all your blog articles on the same page, it's great for blogs that rely on visuals, for example, photography or food blogs. This template is ideal if you want to make an impact on your readers and encourage them to keep coming back.

2. Cailles

Cailles Squarespace blog template

The default Cailles template focuses on real estate, and there is lots of space for inspirational photos. This makes this template a great choice if you have a garden or home décor blog, or any blog where imagery is the main priority.

3. Suhama

Suhama Squarespace blog template

While the previous Squarespace blog templates focus on photos, there will be times when you want your words to do the talking. Suhama lets you have a word-heavy blog, but balances it in such a way that it doesn't become boring. I love the bright colours and the focus on typography.

4. Palmera

Palmera Squarespace blog template

I like Palmera as it lets you showcase your images all on one page but in a different way than Squarespace blog templates like Brower. If you use Palmera on desktop, your text is on one side and your photos on another, making your blog look clean and easy to scroll through.

5. Mérida

Merida Squarespace blog template

Mérida has an unusual and quirky blog layout, which makes it great for lifestyle bloggers and businesses that pride themselves on their individuality. The thing I love most about the Mérida template is that you can include your featured posts at the top of the page, making it easy for visitors to access your most popular content.
